Jun 22 Love1 June 14, 2022 Congrats to Max Grant, Clement Naples, Larry Gotts, Brian Sanford, Greg Sobolski, and the entire trial team from Latham & Watkins, LLP on their $10M jury verdict on behalf of Philip Morris in Alexandria, VA. This was a patent infringement trial between competitors involving some of the technology in e-cigarettes. Max is one of the best in the courtroom, having confidence, poise, and presence like few others can. And the Latham team was well-prepared and cohesive. It was a pleasure to work with these fine professionals and play a role in their success story. May 19 Love0 May 18, 2021 Congrats to Jason Dennis, Greg Brassfield, and the entire trial team from Lynn, Pinker, Hurst & Schwegmann, LLP on their $3M jury verdict in Dallas in a dispute involving fiduciary duty and contract issues among family members. The emotional dynamics embedded in these cases, where family member are litigating, always presents an extra challenge for jurors to sort through in order to focus on what is fair. But there is always a key decision-driver, and it is no surprise that the professionals at LPHS were strategic in their approach, making it easy for this jury to get it right. And kudos to my colleague Emily McDonald for helping pick yet another winning jury and providing insight. It was a privilege and a pleasure to play a role in this success story. Not only did the jury find no infringement by our client Irving Consumer Products, they also invalidated the patents asserted by the Plaintiff. Dec 14 Love0 December 13, 2021 Congrats to the trial teams from the Monsour Law Firm, the law firm of Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz, PLLC, and the Thomas J. Henry Law Firm on their $22.5M jury verdict in Federal Court in Tallahassee, FL against 3M. This was a bellwether case in the combat earplug MDL that resulted in the largest verdict of the 8 bellwether cases tried thus far. The Plaintiff was Thomas Finley, who is one of thousands of veterans who claim the 3M combat earplugs sold to the military were defective and caused hearing loss. It was a privilege and pleasure to play a role in their success story. This was a case involving a claim for excessive use of force by a police officer. This jury selection commanded an extra, and relatively, new layer of analysis due to politics. But the jury of 7, comprised of 2 teachers, 1 of which was the foreperson, got it right. It was a pleasure to play in role in their success story. This dispute involved patents on video game features, and the East Texas jury found no infringement and that the patents cover well-understood and routine technology, which paves the way toward invalidity. Sep 13 Love0 September 13, 2021 Congrats to Peter Prynkiewicz, Shawn Oller, and the entire team from Littler Mendelson, PC as well as Southwest Airlines on their defense verdict in an employment trial in Phoenix, AZ. This case involved claims of gender discrimination and retaliation by a female former employee. Interestingly, this unanimous verdict came from a jury comprised of 6 females and 1 male, demonstrating that demographics such as gender are not entirely predictive in jury selection.
